Material transportation  

Gabion mesh is machine twisted-pair hexagonal mesh panel. packed in rolls .Roll length is 25 m and 50 m.The roll dimension varies based on wire diameter ,roll length and PVC coating . For ease of loading, shipping transportation, per roll bands separately.

Preparation and Placement

Placing Rockfall protection mesh on slope surface or be vertical to slopes ,need to consider the slope height and steepness. Although mesh laying may vary from site to site, the work may be reduced to four main steps .  
1. handle slope surface (removal of loose rock particles, barring down).
2. Using machine to unfold the roll from the slope top.
3. Fixing the mesh with wall or slope.
4. Finally, fasten slope surface mesh top and bottom

By far, the more difficult step is how to unfold the mesh from the slope .

The first method is to transport the mesh roll to the slop top, after aligning, unfold and fix on the upslope edge, making them unroll downhill. This method is used when there is some access road to the top where hill bottom has telephone wire, telegraph pole , road communal facilities.

The second method is to unfold the mesh at the downslope, lifting the mesh with the hook at the fixed place. A winch or crane would be required for this operation. Using cranes and winches may entail some operational constraints, for example, traffic delays and densities, and space restriction when working in narrow roads.  To overcome the above constraints, helicopters have been used to speed up operations . Helicopters are the best solution, when slope is higher than 25 m .
